Ironman and I met an old man while out detecting that told us about the gold mine and surrounding area. The mine showed as just over a mile from our start point by my GPS coords.
The brush was so thick that we literally in spots went 1 foot per minute. Pushing our way through solid brush. Sometimes on our hands and knees crawling along. At the top of the hilll we navigated through a swamp. When I say navigated...I mean we basically followed the compass after losing sat signals for gps and tried not to drown.
Ironman had to pull me out once. I sunk down to my knees in the muck and could not go anywhere. All the old roadways for this area where either gone or totally overgrown. Most travel done back here in the time period...1880s to 1940s was done by boat and at high tide only.
You saw us reach a creek in the vid....where we said we could not go any further. This was for 2 reasons. First..whenever I go out I give my wife a time I will be back by and also give her a time to send a search party out for us, we made it back to cell phone reception area with 35 mins to spare before she called a coast guard helicopter team to our rescue. Second...After hiking 4 hours to get to that creek and knowing the mine was that close was maddening. The creek was maybe 4 feet deep. The problem is that once you approached the creek you began sinking in the swampy muck. It was like quicksand, actually more like slowsand...lol.
Luckily we did find the schoolhouse area and the bottle dump from a homesite on the way. We had planned to find the goldmine or bust!! NO other detecting on the way. Which means that we would have had no detecting footage at all and would not have found the IH cent or SL quarter or the bottles.
For this vid I found a site that had royalty free song titles. I love music. It adds a lot to the dramatic feel for any given situation and lent a more credible feel I think to this production.
Thats all for now on behind the scenes talk that I have. Any questions?? Post them here and I will answer soon as I can. Till then, Safe travels all and take care....WPG
